A must for anyone responsible for responding to emergencies! This series provides values intended as estimates of concentration ranges where one might reasonably anticipate observing adverse effects as a consequence of exposure to a specific substance. Three ERPG values are given in each guide: 1) The ERPG-3 is the maximum airborne concentration below which it is believed nearly all individuals could be exposed for up to one hour without experiencing or developing life-threatening health effects. 2) The ERPG-2 is the maximum airborne concentration below which it is believed nearly all individuals could be exposed for up to one hour without experiencing or developing irreversible or other serious health effects or symptoms that could impair their abilities to take protective action. 3) The ERPG-1 is the maximum airborne concentration below which it is believed nearly all individuals could be exposed up to one hour without experiencing other than mild transient adverse health effects or perceiving a clearly defined objectionable odor. Because human responses do not occur at precise exposure levels, they can extend over a wide range of concentrations. The values derived for ERPGs should not be expected to protect everyone but should be applicable to most individuals in the general population. Each ERPG covers one specific agent and provides full identification of the substance, its chemical and physical properties, animal toxicity data, human experience, existing exposure guidelines, the recommended ERPGs, and the rationales used to establish them. Each year, a new update set will be published and made available separately.
