Evaluating Noise-Induced Hearing Loss Workers' Compensation Claims (AIHce EXP 2022 OnDemand)
Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2022

As IHs, we may be called on to evaluate an employee's or former employee's hearing loss to determine if they are entitled to compensation for work-related hearing loss. In filed claims showing hearing loss, the cause and extent of hearing loss is dependent on many factors both in and outside of the workplace. In workers compensation, evaluating whether a hearing loss claim has merit is more involved than just interpreting the findings from an audiogram. This presentation will discuss a comprehensive method of assessing the merits of a claim by the evaluation of: a) the audiological evidence, b) workplace exposure data, c) legal issues, d) nonoccupational issues, and e) state statutory mandates. The use of criteria outlined in this presentation will the differentiation between claimants who must be compensated for their hearing losses and those in which the work environment has not been the sole cause of their hearing loss.
