OSHA has separate regulations for the agriculture and maritime industries due to the unique hazards encountered. This education session will discuss: 1) the confined space related hazards in these industries and how the hazards are controlled; 2) hazards encountered in storage silos and how they are controlled; and 3) the unique confined spaces encountered in the maritime industry, the role of the Certified Marine Chemist, and sampling and controls utilized to ensure safe entry.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
  • Describe the physical and atmospheric hazards associated with silos used to store corn.
  • Discuss hazard control methods when entering silos used to store corn silage.
  • Identify hazards encountered in the maritime industry.
  • Determine what methods are used to sample and control hazards in the maritime industry.
