OSHA has separate regulations for the agriculture and maritime industries due to the unique hazards encountered. This education session will discuss: 1) the confined space related hazards in these industries and how the hazards are controlled; 2) hazards encountered in storage silos and how they are controlled; and 3) the unique confined spaces encountered in the maritime industry, the role of the Certified Marine Chemist, and sampling and controls utilized to ensure safe entry.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
Describe the physical and atmospheric hazards associated with silos used to store corn.
Discuss hazard control methods when entering silos used to store corn silage.
Identify hazards encountered in the maritime industry.
Determine what methods are used to sample and control hazards in the maritime industry.
