In confined and enclosed spaces, the spray application of flammable coatings and solvent cleaning are among the most hazardous operations conducted. Few painting contractors understand: a) the complex hazards; b) how to control them and protect workers: and c) achieve compliance with OSHA regulatory requirements. This education session will better equip attendees to: 1) identify these types of projects; 2) obtain collaboration of team members; 3) evaluate and select painting contractors and IH consultants; 4) evaluate coatings formulations and cleaning solvents for flammability and toxicity; 5) evaluate space locations and configurations; 6) determine optimal ventilation equipment and placement; 7) eliminate ignition sources; 8) select adequate respiratory protection; 9) select flame/chemical resistant clothing; 10) determine rescue team requirements; 11) select and calibrate equipment; 12) conduct atmospheric testing; and 13) write contract specifications and project health and safety plans.
Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
Evaluate the H&S hazards of confined and enclosed spaces involving flammable toxic spray painting and solvent cleaning.
