A Holistic Approach to Facility and Worker Health and Safety in a World of Rising Tides and Shifting Weather Patterns (AIHce EXP 2022 OnDemand)
Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2022

Natural disasters are occurring more frequently and at a greater intensity than anytime in recorded history. According to The Institute for Economics & Peace's (IEP) 2020 Ecological Threat Register, the frequency of natural disasters has increased tenfold since 1960, from 39 incidents (1960), to 396 (2019). Natural disasters are just one area of increased focus for risk and resilience with regard to climate change. Companies are facing these risks all across their business operations. For example, what happens when the energy flow required to operate a business is disrupted or becomes more expensive. As a result of unanticipated conditions, employees face unexpected health and safety hazards in the workplace. Business continuity planning has become essential to ensuring that people, planet and profit are equally considered and safeguarded. IHs and ESG practitioners can work together to: 1) address climate resilience in the workplace; 2) reimagine both job functions and their associated tasks; and 3) design the workplace to reduce overall risk. This session will use natural disasters as it relates to climate change and address specific considerations that a H&S professional should be prepared to address including the hazards posed by hurricanes, flooding and wildfires.
