Steps to Define and Execute a National Strategy for Elastomeric Half-Mask Respirators (EHMR) in Healthcare (AIHce EXP 2022 OnDemand)
Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2022

Reusable EHMRs are encouraged for routine and surge use in healthcare settings. This session captures the role of EHMRs before and during the COVID-19 pandemic and informs wider EHMR implementation in healthcare settings. Attendees will: 1) learn about advancements in EHMRs for source control considerations; 2) receive hardbound copies of NIOSH resources; and 3) discuss the gaps and barriers to integration in healthcare settings; 4) examine EHMR implementation guidelines. Additionally, experiences regarding updates made to Respiratory Protection Programs (RPP) to accommodate EHMRs is provided for consideration and feedback using Allegheny Health Network as a case example. Consequently, this educational session takes advantage of small group discussions and campfire sessions to identify: 1) widespread barriers to EHMR use; 2) ways an organizational culture may support or hinder EHMR adoption; and 3) best practices and implementation guidelines for organizations adopting new types of respiratory protection. OHS professionals will be able to use concepts discussed to update their own RPP and H&S management systems to be more resilient during public health emergencies.
