Interesting and Unusual NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluations, Part 1 (AIHce EXP 2022 OnDemand)
Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2022

The NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) program responds to requests from employees, unions, and employers to evaluate and provide recommendations which address workplace health and safety concerns. Part 1 of this education session will cover the following HHEs: 1) an evaluation of a warehouse and distribution facility of the potential for work-related exposures to coccidioides. Several employees had developed coccidioidomycosis (Valley Fever) prior to the HHE request; and 2) assessments of respirable crystalline silica (RCS) exposures among construction workers in three different companies performing micro trenching, dowel drilling, and drywall sanding.

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this lecture, attendees will:
  • • Recognize how the NIOSH HHE program functions and provides assistance.
  • • Evaluate exposures to biological agents that do not have exposure limits.
  • • Utilize exposure assessment methods and interpret exposure results for respirable crystalline silica.
  • • Provide corresponding workplace exposure controls.
