Select only what you need from The Noise Manual, 6th edition with AIHA's new topic bundles! This bundle includes Chapter 18 from the full text, plus the cover, front matter, table of contents, symbols and abbreviations, and appendices.

In Chapter 18: Community Noise, learn how to measure noise in the community, interpret results, and control industrial noise to comply with local ordinances and regulations. Check out the excerpt below:

“The primary reasons for limiting noise in the community are to reduce speech and/or sleep interference and to limit annoyance. People are not usually annoyed if the sound is of the level and quality they expect in their communities and if it does not interfere with speech or sleep… The quality of the sound and a community’s characteristics must also be considered. Much depends on the existing conditions and expectations of the community. In densely populated areas, the emphasis is on controlling the overall growth of noise. However, in quieter, less densely populated areas, a new noise that might go undetected in a noisier community can become very noticeable and cause complaints.”
