Contains two presentations:

1. The Shoulder Tool: A New Risk Assessment Tool for Shoulder MSDs

Shoulder musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are common; however, risk assessment tools specific to shoulder MSDs have not been available. This presentation introduces The Shoulder Tool, a risk assessment tool based on the theory that shoulder MSDs are the result of a fatigue-failure process in musculoskeletal tissues.

2. Use of Remote Technologies to Conduct a Hybrid On-site / Virtual Ergonomic Risk Reduction Structured Improvement Activity

Target Zero Structured Improvement Activity (TZ SIA) events have been conducted for several years to fully engage employees and leadership; provide tools and processes to improve safety and ergonomic performance in primary opportunity areas; and foster an enhanced safety culture. Events are typically conducted on-site in a collaborative fashion between the Business Area and Corporate Energy, Environment, Safety and Health. Supporting professionals usually travel to the site, ranging from three to seven individuals, to participate in the event that lasts three to five days. However, in 2020 due to COVID-19 travel restrictions a hybrid approach was developed to allow for TZ SIA events to be held utilizing one on-site coordinator from the local area with virtual support for training, risk assessment and mitigation plans. This case study will not only explore the benefits of using a structured approach to identify and mitigate ergonomic risk factors, but how such a model can be successfully implemented using remote technologies.
