Updating your EAS to Better Inform the TSCA Risk Reviews
The amended TSCA rule directs the USEPA to evaluate worker health risk as part of its chemical risk reviews for existing and new chemicals. This presentation discusses potential supplements to existing IH chemical exposure assessment strategies (EAS) in order to provide USEPA with robust datasets from which to make risk determinations for workers. Available risk evaluations for the first 10 priority chemicals highlight challenges arising from the USEPA approach for establishing health benchmarks versus those used traditionally by OSHA and other occupational health advisory groups when establishing OELs. Thus, data arising from an EAS focused on compliance with the OSHA PELs or other target OELs may have limited value, or at worst support incorrect conclusions of health risk. This presentation focuses on actions to take to update your EAS so that scientifically robust data can be used to inform the TSCA risk evaluations.
