Employees working outdoors have potential exposure to variety of natural hazards: ticks, stinging insects, poisonous plants, animals, natural disasters (earthquakes, hurricane, wildfire smoke, etc.), weather, etc. This session will share the practical approaches a company took to reduce worker injury/illness caused by natural hazards. The following topics will be covered: a) controls implemented; b) best practices utilized; c) overview of the in-person and online/virtual training tactics; and d) tools use to keep employees engaged and interested. This session moves beyond compliance and into a forward-thinking safety culture.

Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
  • Use the shared methodologies to develop a natural hazard policy.
  • Identify training tools to keep employees engaged and interested.
  • Strengthen existing natural hazard policies in their organization.
  • Determine if a natural hazard policy is applicable to their organization.
