A Comprehensive Review of Ethics, Acceptability, and Data of Wearable Sensors (AIHce EXP 2021 OnDemand)
Course Description:
Recorded at AIHce EXP 2021

Wearable sensor technologies are available for a variety of applications at home and work. In general, these devices include accessories and clothing that incorporate advanced electronic technologies, often with smartphone or internet of things (IoT) connectivity. In OSH practice, wearable sensors can: a) detect and alert workers to harmful exposures; b) assist employers in managing their workforce, and c) be integral to programs promoting Total Worker Health® . There are several things to consider prior to implementing a wearables program. This presentation will provide recommendations on the decision-making process to implementing a workplace wearables program. Worker acceptance, best practices, ethical considerations, available technologies and applications, and data analysis and transformation of data into useful knowledge will be discussed.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon completion of the session, the participant will be able to:
  • Identify how wearable sensor technologies can improve S&H outcomes. Determine when wearable sensors may be used or needed.
  • Recognize the ethical considerations from using wearables.
  • Manage the protection of personal information and data security.
  • Determine how wearable sensor technologies can support TWH.
  • Describe current and future wearable technologies.
