While the technical aspects of the revised ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard were not changed, the new standard is a more performance-based standard and includes several requirements for laboratories to conduct risk-based thinking. These requirements have created some confusion and angst with the laboratory community. Instead of having policies and procedures defined by their accreditation bodies, laboratories now have to take responsibility for defining and organizing their activities in a risk-based manner. This session will explore how laboratories can identify, prioritize and mitigate risks in a testing laboratory as well as how laboratories can identify opportunities for improvement.
