Complex workplace challenges require integrated solutions such as Total Worker Health (TWH), Total Worker Exposure (TWE), and Total Exposure Health (TEH). The IH's core strength, assessing and controlling occupational and environmental exposures, is integral to TWH, TWE, and TEH. This session will: a) introduce each of the total concepts; b) illustrate their relationships to each other; and c) highlight the expanded role of the NextGen IH. TEH applies precision health, big-data, and genomics to predict and prevent diseases and to evaluate an individual's workplace, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. The goal is to improve total health and well-being through integrated health protection and promotion. TWE is focused on the assessment of worker exposures in and beyond the workplace. TWH seeks to integrate protection from work-related safety and health hazards with the promotion of injury and illness prevention. IH roles will expand as NextGen concepts are developed and implemented, whether we grow our roles intentionally or a worker presents us with a genetic analysis that reveals vulnerability to a hazard. The American Society of Safety Professionals' TWH Task Force integrates workplace safety and health with activities that advance worker well-being. AIHA is convening a TWH task force.
