The landscape of electronic cigarettes continues to morph and evolve, and this session will help you navigate to the truth. In the past decade, the devices have evolved to meet consumer demand, often becoming more powerful, always becoming more effective, and now becoming more convenient. The data you read in peer reviewed journals might not reflect the vapes seen on the street and, depending on the types of devices, might be as relevant as exposure data from a dissimilar SEGs. This presentation will: a) guide you through the evolution of electronic cigarette; b) provide key findings from the literature; and c) help you frame these findings in the correct risk paradigm. An orientation on the current regulatory framework for all e-cigarettes will be provided with specific focus on: 1) the youth vaping epidemic; 2) the rise of JUUL; and 3) updates from the FDA's accelerated enforcement of PreMarket Tobacco Applications (PMTAs) in May 2020. A case study covering the outbreak of vaping related respiratory illnesses in 2019 will be used to highlight the gaps in regulation and the rising risks of cannabis vaping in a fragmented regulatory framework.

Learning Outcomes
Upon completion, the participant will be able to:
• Recognize the differences in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generation electronic cigarettes.
• Discuss the regulatory authority of FDA.
• Evaluate the gaps in regulatory authority regarding cannabis vaping.
• Describe the risks of youth vaping, flavorings and pyrolysis products.
