Since 2015, in the United States, there has been marked change in how Legionella and other waterborne pathogens are prevented, managed, and regulated. Water management programs to control Legionella and other waterborne pathogens in building water systems are rapidly becoming the standard of care for healthcare and other at-risk facilities. While efforts by AIHA and industrial hygiene communty have been made in recent years to improve the available guidance on Legionella risk assessment, public and private properties in the U.S. have been slow to implement prevention programs. Many facilities operators and owners that are the focus of these regulations and guidance documents are uncertain about what constitutes compliance and how to begin developing and implementing a water management program. Each education session will include three presentations followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session. Part 2 speakers will present the perspectives of water management team members (clinical, legal, and general industrial hygiene) on implementing a water management program at a facility. Each presenter will give an introduction to the member's role in the water management team, and discuss successes and challenges they have faced during adoption and implementation of a water management plan.
Presenters: J. David Krause, Forensic Analytical Consulting Services; Hung Cheung, Cogency Medical; Susan Smith, Beveridge & Diamond, PC.
