The NIOSH Health Hazard Evaluation Program is a public health practice program that responds to requests about potential hazards in the workplace from across the United States. This roundtable will present the results of three unique and interesting evaluations involving new or emerging hazards in novel settings: 1. Dermatologist exposures to the plume created during laser tattoo removals in a hospital. Low levels of metals, volatile organic compounds, bacteria, and particles were found in the air samples. 2. Indoor environmental quality issues at a federal hospital radiology department. Employees reported eye, nose, and throat irritation and that black particulates were entering the workspace from the ventilation system vents. 3. Wildland firefighter exposure to carbon monoxide, wood dust, and noise while using chain saws and during fuel reduction activities. We found overexposures to noise and wood dust, while carbon monoxide levels occasionally exceeded ceiling limits.
