This presentation will discuss the 2016 National Response Framework, Third Edition. One core capability is Environmental Response/Health and Safety. The objective of this capability is to conduct appropriate measures to ensure the protection of the health and safety of the public and workers, as well as the environment, from all hazards in support of responder operations and the affected communities. One critical task under this capability is to identify, assess, and mitigate worker health and safety hazards and disseminate H&S guidance and resources to response and recovery workers. IHs are well suited to perform this task in an incident response. The changes to the industrial hygienist's role and responsibilities in Emergency Preparedness and Response, White Paper will be presented. The session will include why the Emergency Preparedness and Response for the Industrial Hygienist, Body of Knowledge (BoK). was needed for incident safety officers. Why the document was broken down into the types of incidents and the reason that the knowledge, skills, and ability are different for the industrial hygienist performing in a Type I and 2 incident will be explained.
Presenters: Edward Primeau, United States Coast Guard; Laura Weems, United States Army Corps of Engineers.
