Arc safety advancement is missing research papers and presentations from real life situations and theory on electric arc behavior, types of arc, variability and limitations of arc PPE protective properties. Additionally, a lack of a universal method for obtaining arc injury statistics and for identifying the causes for electrical injuries exists. Information is largely unattainable for electric arc incidents, many perhaps not leading to personal injury but others causing life-long disabilities. Data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics does not specify a specific methodology for the characterization of electric arc injuries or death. Another obstacle for safety advancement is confidentiality in both PPE product testing and reporting electric arc incidents. Several challenges exist for advancing electric arc protection culture: 1. Safety education on electric arc basics, and the properties, types and behavior of the different types of arcs, including arc safety in engineering curricula; 2. Education on variability and limitations of personal protective equipment for different arc types and arc parameters; and 3. Reporting, collecting and evaluating data from electric arc mishaps, improving characterizing arc injuries and the need for end user accessing and understanding arc test data.
