Earn 1 Contact Hour

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) comprises microorganisms (bacteria, viruses and some parasites) that have the ability to stop antimicrobial treatments (i.e. antibiotics, antivirals, etc.) from effectively working. As a result, this poses logistical challenges when addressing emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. A brief history and background about AMR will be provided, but focus will be on current topics, largest threats, public health and healthcare issues pertaining to AMR, current prevention measures, and where AMR may be encountered and what role the industrial/occupational hygiene professional plays in control and prevention. This presentation will not delve heavily into microbiology, virology or pharmacology.
Presenters: Aurora Le, Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington.
