Our ability to collect and store data continues to grow exponentially. Our ability to prepare, integrate and analyze data, however, stagnates in comparison. This session will transfer basic skills necessary to complete a small data science project, and generate richer insights using your health and safety data. The session targets IHs at small and medium organizations that lack dedicated information systems. The knowledge and skills covered will be: 1) Data structures and types, 2) Data cleaning and filtering, 3) Data relationships, 4) Visual analysis, and 5) Feature engineering. Because of its ubiquity, this session will focus on the use of Microsoft Excel for all of the skills described. However, more flexible and powerful tools will also be recommended. It will be assumed that users have some experience using Excel, and some familiarity with statistics and data. If you would like to follow along, it is highly recommended that you bring a laptop with Microsoft Excel.
