This talk will highlight opportunities and challenges for promoting occupational health worldwide. As members of a relatively small profession, industrial/occupational hygienists share a cohesive community and professional culture that enable us to forge international bonds based on our shared passion for prevention. These qualities have helped us build vibrant global volunteer organizations such as the Occupational Hygiene Training Association and Workplace Health Without Borders. The positive aspects of our professional culture will be discussed, along with the need to reach beyond the hygiene community, explore solutions that don't fit familiar frameworks, and bridge cultural differences such as one alluded to in the title of this talk. The talk will also focus on opportunities for industrial/occupational hygienists to apply their expertise in promoting global workplace health.
