Biological Monitoring Methods
This panel provides an overview into developments in biological monitoring and biomarker methods to detect chemicals absorbed into the human body. Direct-reading immunoassay methods, a method to isolate a biomarker and measure it, studies used to ensure quality in laboratory results, and use of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometric methods for metals will be discussed. Sampling and laboratory analysis requirements will be reviewed.
Sampling, Analytical Methodology and Testing, Part 1
This technical session will provide information on 1. the new EPA rule for formaldehyde and development of chambers for evaluating emissions; 2. a passive sampling device (DSD-DNPH) for formaldehyde; and 3. a unique diffusive sampling badge with three compartments.
Sampling, Analytical Methodology and Testing, Part 2
This technical session will provide information on: modification of existing methods for analyzing similar class compounds; a description of current and upcoming elemental sampling and analytical methods in the NIOSH Manual of Analytical Methods (NMAM); and the effectiveness of utilizing an IOM personal sampling cassette for analysis of metal working fluids.
