This session covers 4 aspects of Operational and Strategic Planning in Laboratories.

Part 1 provides information on the value and the need for accreditation through:
1. an overview of ISO 17025 and how 2017 changes will affect the laboratory community.
2. understanding that accreditation is important as a license to operate in the global industrial hygiene market.
3. discussing how to of navigate the international accreditations and how these accreditations are valuable to laboratory operations.

Part 2 provides information on operational excellence through:
1. efficiently implementing ISO 17025.
2. applying the Lean Process
3. establishing a corrective action program

Part 3 is titled,Times They Are a Changing. This section covers:
1. Overcoming our Legacy Concerns – Embracing Mobile and Field Sampling and Measurement Organizations. Laboratory sampling and measurements are increasingly moving away from brick and mortar laboratories. Although our traditional laboratories will remain for the foreseeable future, we need to understand the role of portable laboratory measurements.
2. How do emerging Sensor technologies Impact the Laboratory Community? The advances in sensor technologies are putting pressure on our normal laboratory generation of exposure assessment data. What is the current state of technology and what impact will it really have on the laboratory and industrial hygiene community
3. Getting Your Message Out and Understood . Honing your communication skills is important in getting your message across to any audience. How you communicate to various audiences is the key to success.

Part 4 focuses on the AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs. The quality of analytical laboratory data is critical to good decisions affecting worker health and safety. The AIHA Laboratory Accreditation Programs are instrumental in setting quality standards and working with the laboratory community to ensure data quality. This session will provide attendees a synopsis of AIHA LAP activities, strategic plan for the next 3 years, and recognition of key members of the AIHA laboratory community.
