Variance in Sitting Time among Users of Sit-Stand Workstations
Sit-stand desks are gaining popularity as interventions to reduce occupational sitting, due to recent campaigns about the health risks of sedentariness. Some scientific documentation of call center workers have raised serious concerns about whether user behaviors of sit-stand desks can be sustained. This is a field study conducted in Scandinavia aimed to understand whether long term users of sit-stand desks continue to be less sedentary than users of traditional sit only desks.
Evaluation of Physiological Strain Index by Thermal Imagery
Monitoring core body temperature to identify heat strain in workers engaged in heat stress environments is intrusive and expensive. Nonintrusive, inexpensive methods are needed to calculate individual Physiological Strain Index (PSI). Thermal imaging and heart rate monitoring were used in this study to calculate Physiological Strain Index (PSI) during hot work. Results of this study confirmed previous research that thermal imagery shows varying correlations between body core temperature and heat strain depending on degree (low, mild, high) heat stress conditions.
