The presentation will discuss soil gas as the possible cause of the hazardous atmosphere. Best Practices for Confined Space Monitoring The focus of this presentation is to explain how to select the appropriate gas monitor for a particular confined space, identify the various types of calibration and function checks required, and outline proper atmospheric monitoring methods and interpret results. The presentation will include calibration demonstrations. The new NFPA 350, Guide for Safe Confined Space Entry and Work will be referenced throughout the presentation. Notable Confined Spaces and IssuesOther Potential Exposures This session will present actual confined space scenarios and the EHS issues associated with them: 1. Large scale, legal marijuana production is associated with unique atmospheric hazards and confined space issues. Examples are: CO2 added to speed plant growth and flammable liquids/gases used in extraction procedures. Many enclosed working areas meet criteria for classification as permit required confined spaces. Rescue procedures include use of portable atmospheric monitors with sensors that are appropriate to measure these hazards. A standard 4-gas confined space monitor is not enough. 2. This presentation will examine the unique challenges within both the surface and underground mining industry when addressing confined spaces. Currently, no regulations in 30 CFR specifically address the issue of confined spaces. This package awards 2 Contact Hours.
