Session Arranger: L. McKernan, CIH, CDC/NIOSH, Cincinnati, OH
Session Moderator: S. Derman, Medishare Environmental Health & Safety Services, Cupertino, CA

Chemicals are being introduced into commerce at a rate that significantly outpaces the development of authoritative Occupational Exposure Limits (OELs). Occupational Exposure Banding uses available toxicological data to create an Occupational Exposure Band (OEB), to support decisions about exposure control strategies. The objective of this roundtable is to examine the proposed NIOSH approach to derive an OEB, the application of the OEB in emergency response scenarios and relationships with a variety of Control Banding applications. Presenters will highlight the array of different information sources and types of OEBs and control banding strategies, their uses and limitations, and the linkage between them.

Presentations:
• Using Occupational Exposure Bands to Support Occupational Exposure Limit Development
     A. Maier, University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, OH
• Updates on the NIOSH Occupational Exposure Banding Process
     L. McKernan, CDC/NIOSH, CIH, Cincinnati, OH
• Potential Applications of Occupational Exposure Banding during Incident Response Activities
     J. Ignacio, US Dept. of Homeland Security, Waldorf, MD
• Banding Strategies as a Key Component of Multidisciplinary EHS Teams
     D. Zalk, LLNL, Livermore, CA
